Mistletoe Hunt: 12-16-06
When I'm lucky, I go to an annual December
mistletoe hunt. It is a short season, and
mistletoe is very clever. It has to be called,
"kisskisskiss", to be lured a little closer.
Steady, aim, fire!
As branches of the mistletoe fall through
the limbs, the hunter loudly runs for his kill!
At sunset the kill is gathered and hung on a
limb. It is carried by the two brothers who
rule this clan to return the hunt to the
cabin. All performed to the dirge-edition of
the Wizard of Oz's Monkey March;
OO EEE OO, EEE OOOO OO.
Once the mistletoe is picked and shared
amongst the group, feasting and merriment
begin. A 2006 version of an ancient holiday
that marks the beginning of winter solstice
and the season of tree wisdom.
Evergreens are highly regarded and brought
inside. The green boughs remind us there is a
season of renewal coming.
